From the cover "One fat man's quest to get smaller in a growing America" really sums up the whole book. I wouldn't say I enjoyed reading it, but I did connect with the author on many levels. I sincerely hope he is able to successfully continue his journey

Okay, when I went to play this I saw the back said "recommended for listeners ages 8 to 12". I decided to try it anyway and I'm so glad I did.
Great story about a tv reality star trying to survive in the Florida Everglades.

I wanted to read the book before watching the Netflix series. Girl commits suicide leaving behind a series of audio tapes to explain why and who's to blame.

Book #25 in 2013 (Audio)
Wow, my reading really slowed down this summer. Another year of not reaching 52? Maybe when the cooler weather arrives.
If I Stay by Gayle Forman. Read by Kirsten Potter.
4 hours.
Listed as a young adult book, perhaps because of its length or the age of its characters?
Seventeen year old Mia is in car crash that kills the rest of her immediate family. While the paramedics and doctors try to save Mia, she experiences an out-of-body experience, and watches as extended family, friends, and her boyfriend rally around her. Mia discovers she controls whether or not she's going to die.
I guess I'm probably the only listener who thinks death would have been the better choice. Maybe that's why it's young adult? Can a teenager possibly understand how hard the rest of her life will be?

Book #23 in 2010 "Audio"
The Missing: Book 1. Found. By Margaret Peterson Haddix.
I put "audio" in quotes because this is a print novel that Jessie read aloud to me.
I really enjoyed this book. Great plot, good characterization, excellent suspense. I usually have trouble wrapping my brain around time travel, but the author did a very good job handling the topic.

Diary of a Fairy Godmother by Esme Raji Codell.
The story of Hunky Dory, a witch in training who ultimately decides to become a fairy godmother and use her powers for good instead of evil. Hunky battles peer pressure and rejection by her mother (a witch), but stands by her conviction to become a good witch and grant wishes instead of casting evil spells.
A bit preachy and a slow start, but ultimately an ok read, even for an adult. My daughter and I read this for the mother-daughter book club at the local public library. I had high hopes for this book having read something else by this author, so I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't as good as it should have/could have been. 3 stars.
